Kates Join in the Village (super super good)
Teany (Moby's tea cafe), also in the Village
Zen Palete (one in midtown on 9th and 47thish and another one somewhere)
There is a good macrobiotic place near Union Sqare, which I can't remember the name of. Mo'sun?

There are lots of cafes, particularly in the Village that have vegan options, even if the main fare is meatarian. Also, there are Whole Food groceries everywhere. I have never had trouble finding something to eat.

    also try:
    goinside.com/99/6/nycvegan.html
    www.happycow.net/north_ame...york_city/
    www.vegetarianusa.com/city/Ne...ity.html

I once found an on-line listing of resturants that listed the resturants by burrough and then by neighbourhood.

    Good luck and have fun!

are you thinking of Souen, its macrobiotic and located at 210 6th Avenue. i thought it was a little bland.

i recommend Kate's Joint too for breakfast food if you are in a diner kind of mood. it's at 58 Avenue B between 4th and 5th.

got caught in a horrible rainstorm and ened up eating my mushroom gravey in a pool of water. thank god the resturant was overly warm.

          hello,

thanks for the advice everyone. i just got back from nyc (& the end of a cross country bicycle trip..)- and there was plenty of good eating. max, i checked out red bamboo and got the buffalo wings- fucking awesome. i was craving them the rest of the weekend.

i also stumbled across this soy luck club place that had a bunch of soy milk drinks and that was good.

the nyc century bicycle ride was great too. for anyone interested in checking out 4 of the 5 burroughs of ny, it's a great view from the seat of a bicycle.

    grant, omg!!
i love nyc food! you are so lucky! try to find a copy of "the vegan guide to new york city" by rynn berry and chris suzuki. i have the 8th edition. it's a small book but a perfect guide.
my absolute favorite(go there multiple times): Red Bamboo at 140 W4th Street www.redbamboo-nyc.com (i recommend the buffalo wings)

the next three can be a little more pricey but good, i have them in order of preferrence:
Counter Restaurant and Wine Bar at 105 1st Ave (212) 982-5870
Caravan of Dreams 405 East 6th street www.caravanofdreams.net
Candle Cafe at 154 East 79th street www.candlecafe.com
